In January 1988, Frank and Paola met on Usenet, the steam-powered predecessor of AOL that had fewer stupid people and no spam.
They corresponded by e-mail for three months and, despite exchanging these photos, still met in person in April 1988.

A few months after meeting in Leeds, they went to the Glasgow garden festival, on the off-chance of finding some cheap nasturtiums.

Paola moved into the flat that Frank lived in with his friend, Victor, who worked with him at Zengrange.
Frank learned the ancient art of Face Shooey from Victor, a complex and subtle skill he practises to this day.
